Gothic Portrait Shooting

This studio portrait series was developed as part of my bachelor’s thesis, focusing on a concept-driven approach to visual storytelling within a gothic aesthetic.

The project explored how fashion, expression, and scenography interact to create a cohesive visual narrative. Rather than producing simple portraits, the aim was to construct an atmosphere ,one that reflects themes of dark romanticism, strength, and introspective emotion.

The styling and visual direction emphasized:

Fashion as a central expressive element

Controlled lighting with strong contrasts

Intentional posing to enhance emotional depth

A carefully constructed studio environment

To enhance the artistic quality of the images, a prism filter was used during the shoot. This introduced light refractions and subtle distortions, adding layered visual dimensions and reinforcing the surreal, dreamlike tone of the series.

The result is a body of work that merges contemporary gothic fashion with fine art portraiture, highlighting the relationship between identity, mood, and visual composition.
